TCF Sponsors Washington Turkish Festival

The American Turkish Association of Washington, DC received a TCF grant to organize its annual Turkish festival to take place in downtown Washington on October 3. The festival will be preceded by the second Turkish Restaurant Week, on September 17-26. For more information, visit here. TCF Fall Cultural Tour

Participants on the TCF Fall CulturalTour began  their journey through Turkey on September 13. The tour will take 36 guests of the Foundation, who are influential Americans from different walks of life, on an intensive itinerary highlighting the culture, cuisine, history, art and architectural heritage and natural beauty of Turkey. A total of 185 Americans have visited Turkey on the seven cultural tours hosted by TCF since 2006. TCF Awards Scholarships in Ottoman Greek Studies

TCF has awarded scholarships to two Turkish graduate students to support their studies at the National Hellenic Research Foundation's Ottoman Studies Program in Athens. Gurer Karagedikli, a Ph.D. student in History at Bilkent University, will be studying Greek and conducting research on his dissertation subject of the history of Edirne in the 17th and 18th centuries. Sehnaz Sismanoglu-Simsek, a Ph.D. student in History at Sabanci University, will be conducting research on her dissertation subject of "The Karamanli novel Yenicerililer of Ioannis Gavrilidis."

TCF's Who's Who in Turkish Culture and Art Reaches Milestone

The Turkish Cultural Foundation's (TCF) "Who's Who in Turkish Culture and Art" database reached 1,500 entries, featuring living Turkish artists, artisans and experts in Visual, Traditional and Applied Arts, Music, Theater, Cinema, Dance, Fashion and Conservation. This online resource, divided into over 50 categories, includes brief biographies and contact information for each individual, along with selected images of his or her work. Hosted on the TCF Culture Portal LINK, one of the TCF’s web portals which received over 2 million visitors from 200 countries last year, Who’s Who in Turkish Culture and Art link serves the Foundation’s mission to promote Turkish culture and art worldwide. TCF Sponsors San Francisco International Flute Festival

TCF has provided a grant to the San Francisco International Flute Festival to underwrite the participation of Bulent Evcil, renowned Turkish flutist in the festival. Mr. Evcil will give a master class at the Festival and also perform works by Turkish composers at the Festival gala. Mr. Evcil performs with the Istanbul Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra as solo flutist and as principal flute with the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra.
