American Teachers Visit Turkey
83 educators from all over the Unites States have been competitively selected and are visiting Turkey this summer on study tours organized and sponsored by the Turkish Cultural Foundation (TCF). The teachers have been chosen from hundreds of applicants by 14 local chapters of the World Affairs Councils of America, under a partnership program with the Turkish Cultural Foundation. They come from Alaska, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Washington.
Divided into three groups, the teachers will visit Istanbul, Bursa, Edirne, Ephesus, Sivas, Konya, Cappadocia and Ankara, as well as other cities and sites. During their tour, the teachers will learn about Turkish music and cuisine, the arts of paper marbling, Ebru, and world-famous tile making at the Iznik Foundation. They will also visit a variety Turkish public and private schools. Briefings by non-governmental organizations will focus on Turkish civic initiatives to improve education in Turkey, as well as political, social and economic issues.
By the end of the summer, this program will have taken a total of 216 American teachers to Turkey. The TCF-WACA Education program, which also includes teachers workshops and public programs on Turkey, reflects the Turkish Cultural Foundation's mission to build cultural bridges between the United States and Turkey and to strengthen ties between the two people through educational and cultural exchanges.

TCF announces 2009 Fellows
The Turkish Cultural Foundation (TCF) announces the recipients of 2009 Turkish Cultural Foundation fellowships. In 2009, TCF has awarded 8 Fellowships for dissertation research at the Ph.D. level; and 5 Fellowships for Post-doctoral level research. The TCF Fellowship Program was established in 2007 to provide support to students, researchers and scholars who have an interest in the art and culture of Turkey and studies related to the preservation of Turkey’s artistic and cultural heritage. The mission of the TCF Fellowship Program is also to recognize and assist scholars, whose academic achievements and research reflect the commitment of the Turkish Cultural Foundation to disseminating knowledge about Turkey ’s cultural heritage.
First Turkish Musical on Broadway
The Turkish Cultural Foundation became the premier sponsor of the first Turkish musical performed on Broadway. "Hisseli Harikalar Kumpanyasi," one of the best known and charming Turkish musicals has been performed on more than 600 stages worldwide for 29 years. The New York premiere was performed by Turkish and Turkish American professional and amateur artists on June 13 at the Beacon Theater, under the organization of the Turkish American Art Society of New York, a non profit organization promoting Turkish theater to American audiences.

TCF Presents Turkish Artists' Exhibit at the Exposition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art - SOFA 2009 New York, gears up for SOFA Chicago
In line with the Turkish Cultural Foundation's mission to support Turkish artists, TCF sponsors a booth at the SOFA exhibitions in the United States. In April, TCF sponsored a booth at SOFA New York and featured contemporary artists Meric Hizal, Yunus Tonkus, Seckin Pirim and Esma Pacal Turam.
