Secretary Clinton says U.S. President Obama to visit Turkey in a month
The U.S. President Barack Obama will pay a visit to Turkey “in a month or so”, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Saturday in Ankara where she is paying a visit. Clinton said the visit is "a reflection of the value we place on our friendship with Turkey" and that a date would be set soon. Diplomatic sources said it is unclear whether this comes under the new administration’s goal of visiting Islamic countries or if he will attend the Alliance of Civilizations meetings scheduled in early April in Istanbul.
Clinton arrived in Ankara late on Friday evening and expected to leave late on Saturday under the highest level visit from the new Washington administration since Obama took office in late January.

The 5th World Water Forum: The world's largest water event starts in Istanbul
The 5th World Water Forum will be held in Istanbul, Turkey from 16 to 22 March 2009. The Turkish Cultural Foundation has provided a grant for an alumni of the TCF Teacher Study Tours, Rebecca Timson from Billings High School in Seattle to participatie in the Children's Forum of the event with a group of her students.
The World Water Forum is the main water-related event in the world, aimed at putting water firmly on the international agenda. A stepping stone towards global collaboration on water problems, the Forum offers the water community and policy-and-decision-makers from all over the world the unique opportunity to come together to create links, debate and attempts to find solutions to achieve water security. It is organised every three year by the World Water Council, in collaboration with the host country.

President Obama offers support for Turkey-Iraq relationship
U.S. President Barack Obama has told Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan he hoped to strengthen ties with their country and expressed support for Turkey's growing relationship with Iraq, the White House said on Monday. Obama spoke to the two men by phone earlier in the day. "In both calls, the leaders discussed a number of current issues, including U.S. support for the growing Turkish-Iraqi relationship, the importance of cooperation in Middle East peace efforts, and the U.S. review on Afghanistan and Pakistan policy," the White House said in a statement.

Turkish parliament approves Kyoto protocol
Turkey's parliament approved on 5th of February, its membership of the Kyoto protocol, the U.N.-led pact to combat global warming, local television stations said. Turkey had announced in June its intention to sign the accord, which was first agreed by world governments in 1997. The government had postponed signing it for more than a decade because of its concerns about the cost on its economy.
